The number one thing that clients fear, besides the legal matter that brings them into a lawyer’s office, is legal fees. Many lawyers have a section on their website discussing fees but you will never find out exactly what the fees are until a lawyer reviews your case.
Firstly, legal fees consist largely of paying for the lawyer’s time and experience. I am always asked about fees. My philosophy is to never turn away a client because of fees. When it comes to criminal matters no one ever budgets for a lawyer – these matters can come unexpectedly. People are usually afraid to ask their friends about fees or lawyers because they are embarrassed that they have a been charged.
